Can I get a Safety Certificate in Any State?
How long does a Safety Certificate Last?
- If you’re buying from a licensed motor dealer, their certificates are good for 3 months or 1,000 kilometres (whichever comes first) from the date they issued it.
- For everyone else selling, their certificates last for 2 months or 2,000 kilometres (whichever comes first) from the date they issued it.
What happens if my car fails a Safety Certificate?
Does a Seller need to provide a Safety Certificate?
Yes, a seller needs to provide a Safety Certificate unless the vehicle is being traded or sold to a licensed motor dealer. In most cases, it is the seller’s legal responsibility to furnish the certificate and ensure any necessary repairs are completed to make the vehicle roadworthy.
